MXGP 26 - The Official Game

1 October 2026 release

Race modes

Pick the session before you pick the bike. MXGP 26 opens with five PC race modes and a slightly different set of names on Xbox. Grand Prix, Championship, Time Attack, The Compound and Online are the PC list from launch day. Xbox adds Quick Race, calls the hot lap Time Trial, keeps Championship for the red plate, keeps the Compound, and lists online multiplayer for two to ten players. The Grand Prix label is not used on that Xbox page.

None of these modes is a full career. Championship is the season you can finish today. A deeper career is described as the next iteration. Cross-play is also absent, so a PC lobby does not fill with PlayStation 5 or Xbox riders. Plan the evening around one platform.

ModeWhereWhat you do
Grand PrixPCOne of the five PC ways to race named on 1 October 2026. A weekend-shaped Grand Prix is what Weekender asks you to finish.
Quick RaceXboxA heat against a grid of 20 riders, offered in shorter and longer distances. This is the Xbox name for a one-off moto.
ChampionshipPC and XboxA lighter season than a full career. On Xbox the prize described for it is the red plate. Welcome Aboard, Rookie! and First Crown! both live here.
Time AttackPCThe PC hot-lap mode, with Gold badges. Xbox names the same idea Time Trial and does not pair it with a Grand Prix label.
The CompoundPC and XboxFree roam for scrubs and whips. Described as a multi-square-kilometre training area, and also simply as free roam.
OnlinePC and XboxUp to 10 riders. PC has public Elo lobbies and private lobbies. Xbox lists online multiplayer for 2 to 10 players.

Grand Prix and Quick Race

A Grand Prix on PC is the weekend format: more than a single heat, and the shape Weekender is built around. Finish the whole weekend, not a single moto, and that championship-family icon can tick. One Small Step is the first GP win and sits in the racing family instead, so you can win a moto inside the weekend and still owe Weekender the rest of the program. Quick Race is the Xbox one-off. You line up with 20 riders and choose a shorter or longer distance. Use it when you want a Fox Holeshot attempt or a one-second win without committing to a season. What a Start! only cares that you take the holeshot once. By a Whisker only cares that the winning margin is a second or less. Neither one asks you to stay for qualifying the next morning.

Offline MXGP grids go up to 20 and MX2 grids go up to 16. The MX2 cap is tied to the 16 official riders on the 2026 support-class grid. A Quick Race that promises 20 riders is an MXGP-sized field. If you are hunting 2 Fast for You!, switch the bike to MX2 and go to Time Attack instead of padding a Quick Race. The hot lap and the race grid are different sessions. Around the World, a win on every track, is a racing-family grind that Quick Race can feed one circuit at a time, but only on tracks you can actually select. Seven circuits have public names. The calendar still contains 19.

Championship and the red plate

Championship is the mode to open when you want a season rather than a single gate. It is lighter than a career: you are not managing a factory program, a staff tree or a transfer window. You are riding a series and, on Xbox, chasing the red plate. Welcome Aboard, Rookie! is the first finished championship, at 0.7 percent of players. First Crown! is the first championship win, at 0.6 percent. The gap between finishing and winning is small in the global numbers because almost nobody is through a full season yet. Full House asks for first place, the Fox Holeshot and the Acerbis Best Lap in every GP of that championship. Jeffrey, Is That You? asks for 114 GP wins. Tony, Is That You? asks for six successive official MXGP championships with a full entry list on Hard or higher. Those last two are 0.1 percent icons. They are season math, not a lucky holeshot.

A full career mode is the stated focus of the next iteration. Do not hunt a retired-rider story mode in this build. If the menu offers Championship, that is the season. Four AI levels run from Amateur to Expert, and Trust Me, I'm an Expert is a win on Expert difficulty, which you can set for a championship round or a single race. Clean Rider, a win with no respawn and no penalty, is easier to attempt in a short race than across a wet championship weekend, but the rule is the same wherever the checker is watching.

Time Attack, the Compound and online lobbies

Time Attack is the PC name for a hot lap and the home of the Gold badge. Practice Makes Perfect is your first Gold. 2 Fast for You! is a Gold time beaten on an MX2 bike, so the class of the motorcycle matters as much as the lap. Xbox calls this hot lap Time Trial. If a friend on Xbox cannot find Time Attack in the menu, they are looking for Time Trial. The Compound is the free-roam yard for scrubs and whips, described both as free roam and as a multi-square-kilometre training ground. James, Is That You? is a scrub of one metre or lower over a bump, and the Compound is the sane place to learn the input before you spend a race doing it. Unicycle, fifty metres of wheelie, is the same kind of drill. A race finish while falling off is Superman, which you cannot really rehearse in free roam because it needs a finish line.

Online holds at most ten riders. PC splits that into public Elo lobbies and private lobbies. Xbox lists the range as two to ten. There is no cross-play, so the Elo number on PC does not meet an Xbox lobby. PC Update 1 improved bike physics for clients in online races, smoothed the view of other riders, fixed joins, and fixed a set of online crashes. If a private lobby failed on launch afternoon, take the patch before you blame the host. Hotshot, a race with no assist, is legal online and offline. Speed Regulation Assist is deactivated on PC because it could stop the bike accelerating, so an online race that feels like the throttle is gated is a reason to confirm the patch, not a reason to turn that assist back on.

Assist profiles themselves run from Amateur to Expert, separate from the four AI levels that use the same words. Manual stand and sit starts off. With it on, rider weight changes the bike. That switch is a riding option, not a mode, but it changes Time Attack more than it changes a short Quick Race because a hot lap punishes one bad sit. Replay and photo mode sit beside these sessions. A photo does not require a race result. A Gold badge does. Use the Compound to learn the scrub, Time Attack to price it, and Online when you want nine other people in the first corner.
